Melanin Being expresses fashion through our well known Fashion Label Maila Kouture. Maila Kouture is a brand that was established in 2009 by designer Maila Kalipi, the Head Designer at Melanin Being. She has managed to showcase numerous collections at various shows in Namibia and participated in the 2017 Windhoek Fashion Week with her collection titled BLOOM by MAILA KOUTURE. According to the Oxford Dictionary Melanin is a dark brown or black pigment occurring in the hair, skin and iris of the eye in people and animals. It is responsible for tanning of the skin exposed to sunlight. This definition triggered the creation of Melanin Being which motivates people to change darkness and negative energy and moments in life into Light; and light into that which they love. The organization aims to combat prejudices formed by the understanding that Melanin refers to black people. This concept is oblivious to the fact that white people also have melanin cells in the Basal Layer of their skin, in their hair and eyes. This pigment produced by melanocyte cells is responsible for the many shades of Human Beings we see all over the world which is all dependent on the genetic make-up of the individual. The only Human Being on earth that appears with no melanin at all, are people who have Albinism. Though “Melanin Being” does not speak to   Albino’s, our aim still
